My 8 year old daughter watches animal planet all the time to watch animal police. She prefers watching this over anything else. Is this show too violent for an 8 year old in your opinion. I've watched it and it seems violent and cruel at times because they show what people do to their pets. Would you take this as a learning device for her of what not to do with animals?

kids absorb stuff very fast. I think its ok to watch Animal planet but i would be worried if the kid spends too much time watching tv. its not very healthy. the say the brain slows down if you watch too much tv!!1

I don't let my boys watch this show only because some of it is so graphic. I think that there are just better ways of having them learn about cruelty to animals. But that is just my personal opinion.

8 seems a little young to me.....BUT it depends entirely on the child. When my oldest was 9 my pomeranian was having a difficult labour for a stillborn pup. Her father was helping me when I head a thud....she very calmly told me "Daddy decided to take a nap" and then she helped me deliver the pup and care for the mother. It doesn't get more graphic than that. I had to have the help, she was the only one around and if I had tended to er I'd have lost our beloved furry family member.

My oldest is now a Radiation Therapist and well adjusted. Her father still has nightmares about that day. So she at 9 was better able to handle the situation than her 33 year old father.

If your daughter can handle it, great. If it's causing her distress, nightmares...etc. Then turn off the TV. Raising a child and controlling them is not the same thing.
