Is combing a short haired dog really necessary? Do you normally just comb when the dog begins to shed? Does combing help the skin in any way? About how many times should you comb a dog's coat per month?

I have always combed my short-haired dogs, just because they always seemed to appreciate it. They would sometimes go get the brush and bring it to me for me to brush them.

My oldest has a pug and uses one of those hair mitts that many people use for cats. It stimulates his skin, gets the hair and is much faster and more gentle than a comb.
