Chihuahua Dog Picture & Information

chihuahua dog picture

Alternative Name

Chihuahua

Origin

Mexico

Physical Attributes

Chihuahuas are characterized by round heads, large erect ears, very muscular hind legs and small feet. They also have a short, soft glossy coat that is either tan, chestnut or white. There are both short-haired and long-haired Chihuahuas.

Their height is about 6 - 9 inches at the shoulders and weighs from 2 to 6 pounds.

Health Information

They tend to sneeze a lot due to their small noses. They are also prone to eye diseases including corneal dryness and secondary glaucoma.

Due to their small size, they are usually prone to breaking bones in their puppyhood. Genetic abnormalities that affect these dogs include seizure disorders and patella luxation. Some have an unclosed section of the skull which can remain open throughout life leading to injuries.

Miscellaneous Information

This is the smallest breed of dogs. Chihuahuas are smart, intelligent and lively dogs. They are extremely loyal and like to show their affections to their owners by licking their faces.

It is not recommended to leave Chihuahuas to unruly children because they can get easily injured due to their small size. Their only defense is to use their teeth which can inflict a nasty bite if provoked!
