Origin
Descendent of the original English bull-baiting Bulldog. Origins can be traced back at least one hundred and fifty years or so to England.
Physical Attributes
The Pitbull is a muscular, athletic and an eager-to-please dog. Its couragious, has a high tolerance to pain and loves physical challenge.
The males weigh about 35-60 lbs while the females weigh between 30-50 lbs.
Health Information
The lifespan of Pit Bull Terriers is about 13 years. The dogs are known to suffer from hip dysplasia and eye disorders.
Miscellaneous Information
Pit Bulls are noted for their loyaly to their masters. They are also couragious and defensive dogs.They have extreme muscle density and as such can jump over four feet vertically.
Bulldogs were bred to assist farmworkers in subduing dangerous bulls during breeding or castration. Thus they were bred to have strong jaws and muscular bodies. Eventually with time they were trained to engage in the sport of dog fighting which many people detested and eventually outlawed.
Over time, during the 1800's migration to the US the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, also called the American Pit Bull Terrier was bred.
Pit Bulls have recieved a lot of negative press due to the much publicised attacks on humans resulting in laws outlawing the possessions of these dogs in some countries or states.
